Stato as a Platform for e-Services

Stato 3 software was launched in December 2003. The first versions of the software were developed in 1995. In 2000, the name Stato was introduced. Stato is a functional tool for designing information portals. It includes three essential features: integration, multi-channel publishing and content management.

Many largeFinnish companies use Stato software to produce e-services and applications. The online consumer service of Valio, www.valio.fi, uses Stato, as does the consumer portal of Paulig, www.paulig.fi. Stato has also been used in implementing several large applications for the Keswell group of Kesko, both for internal use and for consumers, e.g. with www.kodin1.com, the e-commerce solution for Kodin Ykkönen.
Stato is also used in organizations that run e-services as a significant part of their operations. The Finnish Virtual Polytechnic is a good example. Stato was used to create a customized portal, www.virtuaaliamk.fi, which is used by students, teachers, administration as well as developers of the Finnish polytechnics.

Managing Information

Stato software can be used as an information management interface between already existing data sources and databases and the users of business logic and information in an organization. Stato is used to integrate software applications (EAI), to manage and edit information for publication (CMS) as well as to channel, store and distribute information through preferred publishing channels, for example Internet, extranet, intranet, mobile services, email, digital television (ECM). Stato includes search properties that support metadata, tracking properties, material directory (DMS) as well as management of user information and acces rights. Stato can be further developed by using its own add-on components to cover, for example, group work and customer data management (CRM). Through e.g. Portlet and Java-technologies, it is also possible to use applications by other manufacturers.

Tools for Future Development

Stato provides a functional tool for developing network services. The technical realization of Stato make it possible for Stato customers to develop applications' features and technology without having to make changes in the implementation.. A good example of this is the consumer portal created for Valio. Valion Ruokavuosi, an online recipe directory, was implemented in 1997 by using a preliminary version of Stato. Since then, Valio has chosen the latest versions of Stato to implement its consumer online services, and the integration, information delivery and content management properties have been expanded. The current portal, www.valio.fi, was launched in April 2003. The entire solution is based on Stato. When implementing e-services that are designed to be flexible and to meet future requirements, the best production model is one that meets the needs of the customers.
